The production of Serge Bozon's 6th film, Don-Juan, which was selected for the Cannes Premiere section at the 75th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, has adopted eco-responsible practices at every stage of the project's production. The film was partly produced in Paris Region, namely in the city of Saint-Ouen, and benefited from the support of the Film Paris Region teams as well as the Paris Region grant fund.

In 2022, Don Juan is no longer the man who seduces all women, but is rather a man obsessed by a single woman: the one who abandoned him...

For this musical and dance comedy, 9 locations in Paris Region were chosen by Les Films Pelleas, including 2 in Seine-Saint-Denis, 3 in Hauts-de-Seine (Vanves and Saint-Cloud), 1 in Les Mesnuls (78) as well as 3 in the 8th district of Paris, notably at the Marigny Theater.

Eco-responsibility

From the outset, Les Films Pelléas designed Don Juan in the most eco-responsible way possible at every stage of production:

In terms of administration, by favoring recycled paper, double-sided B&W printing, waste sorting, the use of reusable water bottles and eco-labeled cleaning products...

During preparation, upcycling solutions were favored: renting of costumes, furniture and accessories. The production called upon committed companies from Paris Region, such as the 2 companies from Audon La Compagnie des Costumes and Collectif Costume, as well as Les 2 Ailleurs in Bry-sur-Marne. Nestor Factory was also asked to propose eco-responsible management solutions.

The production set up a carpooling system for each remote location that was difficult to access by public transportation (especially for Les Mesnuls in the Yvelines). The crew stayed in shared houses within walking distance of the locations in Granville, Normandy. The canteens also had to avoid waste and cook with seasonal products.

At the end of the filming, all the items purchased by the production were stored in order to be reused. A total of 30 companies located in Paris Region were recruited, including TSF, which was heavily called upon by the production for the rental of technical equipment, cameras and vehicles.

"Our cultural policy strives to democratize the access to excellence for each generation, in order to allow Audonians to aspire to a universal, creative, emancipating and open vision. The high quality of our city's film mission obviously contributes to this outreach, and that makes me proud."

Saint-Ouen : a city committed to hosting film productions

The production received permission from the city of Saint-Ouen to film in the city hall and at the Lido bar at the corner of Raspail and Farcot streets, on May 3 and 4, 2021, in the presence of actors Virginie Efira, Elsa Esnoult and Tahar Rahim.

The city of Saint-Ouen has had a long tradition of hosting film productions since Bric Brac et Compagnie by André Chotin in 1931. Thanks to its industrial history, the city combines natural heritage and architectural scenery. A diversity of settings that pleases productions: From Pierre Granier-Deferre, to François Truffaut, Claude Sautet, Albert Dupontel, Cédric Klapisch and Woody Allen, many directors have made parts of their films in this city in Seine-Saint-Denis. Recently, the city has hosted, among others, the filming of international productions Lupin and The Man in the Basement.

The city's Cinema Mission has a one-stop shop for professionals in the industry to promote the development of the film and audiovisual ecosystem in the area while ensuring a positive cultural and economic impact for its residents.

Among the productions hosted in Saint-Ouen, 2 feature films and a series have been selected for the 75th Cannes Film Festival 2022 (Don Juan by Serge Bozon, Mascarade by Nicolas Bedos and Irma Vep by Olivier Assayas, who was also supported by Film Paris Region).
