The Paris region is full of inspiring stories. Many masterpieces of literature are set in its territory.

The Paris region has also inspired prestigious French and foreign directors over the decades: Gaston Leroux's The Phantom of the Opera, with its plot set at the Opéra Garnier in Paris, has been adapted to film more than 8 times, including by Brian de Palma in 1974 with a memorable glam-rock version.
In 2006, the American director Sofia Coppola filmed her biopic on Marie Antoinette at the Château de Versailles and dusted off the traditions with brio and fantasy:
